Ní Mhurchú brings high level EU transport and tourism delegation to South East

Ireland South MEP Cynthia Ní Mhurchú brought a high-level EU transport and tourism delegation to the Southeast of Ireland on July 21st for a three-day visit to Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford and county Meath.

The high-level delegation of MEPs focused on identifying the Southeast’s key challenges and opportunities for sustainable transport and tourism. Delegates met with various government ministers, TDs and sectoral stakeholders. They visited local businesses and key infrastructure projects including O’Sullivans taproom and brewing company in Kilkenny, Rosslare Europort, Roche freight Ireland’s HQ in Wexford, and the Navan Rail line project.

According to Cynthia Ní Mhurchú, the visit was a key opportunity to showcase Carlow, Kilkenny, and the Wexford and Waterford areas to make a pitch for increased levels of funding for transport and tourism projects in the Southeast.

The delegation also carried out on-site visits to key EU-funded infrastructure projects.

Commenting on the visit by EU MEPs to the Southeast, Cynthia Ní Mhurchú said she is extremely proud to bring such a high-level delegation to the sunny southeast and hopes that it will be the start of new relationships between the Southeast region of Ireland and similar regions across the European Union.

The group also met with Wind Energy Ireland, Hydrogen Ireland, Ryanair, Aer Lingus and got briefings on the development of Sustainable Aviation Fuel from Dr. Stephen Dooley of Trinity College Dublin.
