Ireland South MEP Cynthia Ní Mhurchú has said the European Parliament must legislate for concrete actions that will simplify the everyday life of small and medium sized businesses across Ireland
Speaking as she met with Bray and District Chamber of Commerce, Ní Mhurchú emphasised the need for increased use of digital solutions and artificial intelligence to make reporting easier for small business.
She also pointed out that we need to ensure that Member States apply EU law consistently across the EU to ensure certainty for businesses.
According to Ní Mhurchú, the “EU has 450 million inhabitants and is one of the largest economic blocs in the world, but our single market is not being used to its full potential. We should simplify and improve, not weaken. Rules should be clear, predictable and proportionate. In working on my new files to reduce the regulatory burden on SMEs I will be sending a clear message to the Commission: now is the time to act. We must not be left behind in the global competition.”
Speaking after the meeting, Bray Chamber Vice President Jonathan Donnelly added…
“We are delighted to have had the opportunity to meet with MEP Cynthia Ní Mhurchú today. Her membership of the Internal Market and Transport & Tourism committees are of particular significance to our members. We look forward to working with her to ensure the voice of North Wicklow businesses is heard in Europe, and to explore opportunities that will strengthen our local economy”
Immediate past-president Sarah Finnegan added,
“Today was an opportunity to share the local business perspective and give in-person examples of how the legislation and policies Ms. Ní Mhurchú will be working on might affect us and to share our first-hand deeper understanding of the key issues for businesses in Bray and the District.”
