Cynthia’s Priorities
A fair deal for our farmers
I will continue to fight in Brussels for a fully funded CAP budget, the retention of our nitrate’s directive and for the commitments in the Programme for Government to protect and enhance farm incomes to be implemented in full. That includes increased supports for Suckler/Beef, Dairy, Poultry and Pigs, and Sheep farming. I have called for new planning guidelines to make it easier for your sons and daughters to build on the family farm. Our planning system is overly bureaucratic and needs urgent reform so that people can live, work and contribute to life in rural Ireland.
The promotion of the Irish language
Tá sé ríthábhachtach go dtabharfaimid tús áite don Ghaeilge agus go ndéanaimid infheistíocht i bhforbairt na Gaeilge ar fud chláir an Aontais Eorpaigh. Tá sé ríthábhachtach freisin go gcuirfimid tacaíocht airgeadais ar fáil d’eagraíochtaí sochaí sibhialta na Gaeilge agus na Gaeltachta.
Protecting women against violence
We must build upon our success in the landmark EU Directive to combat Violence Against Women. We need continued investment in new refuge accommodation but also continued reform of our courts system to make it a more victim centered experience for those who must face their abusers in open court.
The Internet – Safety for All
I want to protect children by ensuring providers of online platforms have high levels of safety and security. We need robust age verification, and we need to ensure that our laws protect our young people when they are online.
Investment in the economy of rural Ireland
We need to progress infrastructure investments such as offshore wind energy projects. We can create thousands of highly skilled jobs in rural Ireland whilst transitioning to a low carbon economy if we utilise EU funds, our technological universities and invest carefully in new infrastructure across rural Ireland.
